Speaking of the Von Zubens, I had a nice visit with Uncle Sandy this morning. We talked for a couple of hours and he told me this story:

I am not sure of the year it happened, but my grandma Susan told Uncle Sandy about one time that a Mission came to the Alsace Church. Apparently Mrs. Von Zuben was in charge of the music and the choir. After one of the masses/meetings all the people were leaving the church. As Mrs Von Zuben walked by the guy holding the mission he said "Hey Fatty.... I want to talk to you about something". She kept walking so he said it again... "Hey Fatty.... I want to talk to you". She kept going. Finally he said "Hey Fatty stop, I want to talk to you". She stopped, turned and in a heavy German accent said "Around here the gentlemen call me Mrs. Von Zuben" and kept walking.

I am sure there are a million of these stories from years gone by. Hopefully some people are doing like me and writing them down.

These are the first photos that I had seen of the old Von Zuben place. It was located just past my Uncle Stan Toeppner's farm on the old Nipissing/Rosseau Road. The property has been owned by my grandfather and Uncle Sandy for many years.
